MEU 2010 was a Blasting Success

Model European Union 2010 reached its end last Saturday, when 180 participants and 20 organisers returned home after one week of living the European Union politics first-hand. Despite the ash cloud, that complicated the return home of at least half the participants and the organising team, the conference was very successful and the whole organising team would like to thank the participants for their commitment and their motivation.

Dear MEU-followers,

In order to open a new information source from the organization of the most challenging simulation of European politics, we are starting a blog, where we will offer you more information on how the preparations for Model European Union 2010 are going and which are our next steps. Moreover, the blog will deal with some important EU-news. And, of course, it will be open to all of you so that you can ask any question and comment on the posts.

Update on Selection Process

Dear applicants for MEU 2010,

It is a sure thing that you are eager to find out the results – so are we!

However, due to the numerous applications received, almost 700, the selection process might take a bit more than expected: selecting the best applicants is not an easy task when having to choose between so many witty Europeans.
We kindly ask you to be patient and wait for our confirmation e-mail, which should come by 21st February at the very latest.

Last call to apply for MEU 2010!

MEU 2010 application period is coming towards an end!

If you haven't submitted your application for Model of the European Union 2010,
taking place from Saturday 10th April to Saturday 17th April 2010,
you'd better start to because all applications will close on 24th January 2010, 23 GMT+1!

So hurry: fill out the application form, write a short motivation text (not more than 100 words) and an essay of about 700 words on ONE of the following topics:

Is European Identity a myth?
If Europe made a new treaty, what would you want in it?
EU after the crisis: evolution or revolution?

Application Period Update

Application period update: the application period will open on 16th December 2009, (arround 16 pm GMT+0) contrary to what was previously announced (see below). It will close on the 24th January 2010.

MEU 2010 Date and Call for Applications

The MEU team is working hard to get an official answer from the European Parliament in Strasbourg for the date of the 2010 edition of Model European Union in spring 2010. We hope to inform you about the date as soon as possible.

In the meantime, we can already tell you that the application period for all positions will open on 15th December 2009 and will close on the 24th January 2010. In the application, you will also have to write a short essay about one of the following topics:

The organising team of Model European Union 2010 kicks off preparations for next spring's conference

After the huge success in 2009, the organizing team kicks off preparations for the 2010 event with a renewed spirit and some novelties. To allow more young people to participate in this great masterpiece of practice-oriented, non-formal education, the number of participants places was increased, and two new topics were selected. Model European Union is a simulation of European politics, run in the European Parliament building in Strasbourg and involving young Europeans from all over Europe. During the next event, 180 participants will play the roles of the ministers of the EU member states, Members of the European Parliament, lobbyists, journalists and, also, a novelty this year, interpreters.
